  1. Calming Comforts: A cozy den, familiar toys, and a calming pheromone diffuser can create a safe haven for your pup. Always talk to your vet before trying a new medication with your dog.
  1. ID Safety: Double-check that your dog’s microchip and collar tags are up-to-date with your current contact information. You can also get an Apple AirTag. Nothing is too much when trying to avoid a lost dog on a chaotic night, which is every dog mom’s nightmare!
  1. Festive Gear: A cute bandana and a light-up collar can add to the holiday cheer while making your dog visible in low light. Or try a vest to beat the summer heat.
  1. First-aid kit: A dog-specific first-aid kit in case of emergencies.

By following these simple tips, you can ensure that your furry companion enjoys a safe and happy 4th of July.

  1. Keep your dog indoors during fireworks displays.

This is the most important tip!

While fireworks are exciting for us, they can be terrifying for dogs. Instead of attending a fireworks display, opt for a dog-friendly 4th of July activity. The Fourth Of July Drone Shows are pretty cool!

  1. Make sure they have proper identification, including a Collar with tags and a Microchip.
  1. If your dog is anxious, consult your veterinarian about Calming Solutions.

  2. Be mindful of the Heat and ensure they have access to plenty of fresh water.
  3. Avoid feeding your dog table scraps and keep it away from any 4th of july food containing harmful ingredients like chocolate or onions.
  1. Create a Safe Haven and designate a quiet, escape-proof room in your home where your dog can relax away from the noise and commotion of fireworks. Fill it with their favorite toys, blankets, and comforting scents.
  2. Comforting Sounds, play calming music or white noise to drown out the sound of fireworks. Consider using a ThunderShirt or anxiety wrap to provide additional comfort.
  1. Leave the Grill to the Humans. Protect your pup from the grill and potential hazards like matches, lighter fluid, and citronella candles.
  2. Get them a firework BFF. I read that most dogs are afraid of fireworks and thunderstorms, but not all of them. Getting your anxious dog a furry friend who doesn’t get anxious with loud noises can be a great idea.

I’m lucky enough that my dog doesn’t get scared of storms or fireworks, except when he is directly exposed to the last ones. Give Chevy a call! ๐Ÿ˜…

My friend down the street has a dog that is not scared of loud noises and gets along well with mine. She has offered to lend me her dog for support. Shall I accept?

This may be an excellent strategy. Keeping the two together during the evenings may help. If you or your friend plays with the non-fearful dog when your own becomes scared, it may help to encourage him to join in and thus reduce his fear.
