This post is about things to do with your dog at home.
Raise your paw if you’re a dog lover! I’m right there with you. My furry friend, Chevy, is more than just a pet; he’s my best bud, my confidante, and my constant source of amusement.
But let’s be honest, sometimes keeping our canine companions entertained, especially indoors, can be challenging. Fear not, fellow dog lovers! I’ve compiled a list of 15 fun and engaging activities you can do with your dog at home, no matter the weather.
List of Things To Do With Your Dog At Home
For the Relaxed Dog (my kind of dog)
1. Take a Nap
This is my number one! We absolutely love taking naps in our bed or on the sofa. My dog Chevy and I are professional nappers, and if we combine this with No.2 below, we are heaven!
2. Cuddle Up with a Book or Watch a Movie
Bring the popcorn! Watching a movie with my dog is one of my favorite activities. I love his reactions to The Lion King scenes and how protective of me he gets during action movies. Or get cozy on the couch and read a book like “Dog” by Mary Oliver. The sound of your voice will be calming, and the cuddle time will strengthen your bond.

3. Massage Time
Give your furry friend a relaxing massage. Focus on areas like the neck, shoulders, and legs, using gentle strokes and kneading motions. Not only will your dog appreciate the pampering, but it’s a great way to bond and check for any bumps or injuries.
4. Doga
We all have a hard time finding the time and the willingness to exercise, and it’s even harder if you can’t leave home because of bad weather or just can’t. Take the opportunity to bond with your best friend and give your body the movement it needs. It’s a win-win!

For the Puzzle-Loving Pup
5. Treat-Dispensing Toys
These toys keep your pup mentally and physically stimulated as they work to get the treats out. Choose a toy that rolls, bounces, or dispenses treats as your dog interacts with it. I got this Interactive Treat-Dispensing Puzzle from Amazon and Chevy play with it for a bit, until he gets all the treats, after that he is done! There is a whole category for this kind of interactive toys in Amazon.

6. Sniffing Games
It’s no secret that dogs have incredible noses. Hide treats or toys around the house and let your dog sniff them out. Start with easy hiding places and gradually increase the difficulty as your pup gets the hang of it. You can even make it a scavenger hunt by hiding notes with clues leading to the next treat.
7. Food Puzzles
These interactive toys require dogs to use their problem-solving skills to get to the yummy treats inside. Choose a puzzle with difficulty levels that match your dog’s abilities. Bonus points for homemade puzzles using empty boxes and containers!
For the Energetic Pup
8. Indoor Obstacle Course
Get creative and set up an obstacle course using furniture, pillows, blankets, and anything else you can find. This is a great way to burn off energy and practice basic commands like “over,” “under,” and “through.”
9. Tug-of-War
This classic game is a fun way to bond with your dog and provide physical exercise. Use a sturdy rope toy and let your dog tug to their heart’s content. Just be sure to take turns winning and encourage gentle play.

10. Fetch with a Twist
Instead of throwing the usual ball or frisbee, try throwing treats or hiding them around the house for your dog to “fetch.” You can also add obstacles or change the direction of throws to make the game more challenging.
For the Creative Dog
11. DIY Toys
Get crafty and make your own dog toys. Use old socks, towels, or even plastic bottles to create fun and engaging toys that your dog will love.
12. Paint or Draw
This is a fun activity that allows you to express your creativity while bonding with your dog. Dip your dog’s paws in non-toxic paint and let them walk on a canvas to create a unique masterpiece. You can also hung out their art on your Christmas tree, this can be the perfect Christmas tree ornament and a cute memory.

13. Scent Training
This activity is not only fun but also useful. Hide different objects around the house and train your dog to identify and find them by scent. This can be a great way to keep your dog mentally stimulated and prepare them for obedience training.
14. Learn a New Trick
Dogs are eager to please and love learning new things. Start with simple tricks like “shake” and “high five,” and gradually work your way up to more complex ones. This is a great way to stimulate your dog’s mind and build their confidence.
15. Dance with your Dog
Put the music on and dance your paws out! We know our dogs love to be with us all the time (maybe too much, haha). They enjoy our presence, so why don’t we have them as dance partners, too? Perhaps they are secretly talented!

Bonus Tip: Don’t forget to adjust the activities to your dog’s age, size, and energy level. What works for a young puppy might not be appropriate for an older dog.
Remember, having fun and connecting with your furry friend is the priority when trying new things to do with your dog. So get creative, be patient, and enjoy the journey!
